I was able to get valuable advice from experts on how to fill the wiki “ZUM Deutsch Lernen” with content. I am currently planning to do this in the context of voluntary coaching with an African student who is currently preparing her bachelor’s thesis in engineering in NRW.
The first publications from the German-Cameroonian project are planned for January. The workbooks on professional German are also in this context. They cover technical jargon at the B2, C1 and C2 levels, which cannot be covered by language teachers. Teachers who teach German as a foreign language (DaF) or German as a second language (DaZ) cannot at the same time be specialists in engineering to conduct corresponding technical discussions in German. Even with the jargon of the 309 recognised training professions, very few language teachers are likely to be able to offer the well-educated refugees who are currently arriving in our country in large numbers the linguistic support they need to work at the same level as in their home countries. Skilled workers and managers need to be able to hold professional discussions in German with colleagues at a competent level. Most German workers cannot speak English well, nor Arabic, Russian or Ukrainian. The prerequisite for professional success for all immigrants is always very good language skills. The cover of “ZUM Deutsch Lernen” takes this fact into account.
I will endeavour to offer support in compiling specialised vocabulary.
The video shows how to use the workbook for industrial clerks. The extracted technical vocabulary is based on the framework curriculum of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany.
